Turning "it's all in someone's head" into a system that works without you in the room.
About
I spent 9+ years building the systems that kept aerospace manufacturing running — the SOPs, the safety documentation, the training programs, the test methods — for organizations where a single mistake could shut down a $10M production line.
Before that, I led lab operations at a university research center, ran technical training for engineers, and worked directly with regulatory pressure (DOSH, L&I-style compliance requirements) that doesn't leave room for guesswork.
Now I bring that same discipline to local businesses — the kind that don't have a corporate process department, but face the same problem: critical knowledge that lives only in one person's head, manual work that eats hours every week, and no time to fix it because everyone's too busy doing the work.
Services
Local business owners keep telling us the same things. Here's what we hear most — and how we help.
-
"It's all in someone's head."
If your business depends on one or two people remembering how things are done, you don't have a process — you have a risk. I interview your team, document how work actually gets done (not how the manual says it should), and turn it into clear, usable SOPs that a new hire or vacation coverage can actually follow.
Good for: onboarding new staff faster, reducing "ask Steve" bottlenecks, preparing for growth or a future sale.
-
"L&I is very strict, and we feel it."
Regulatory pressure (DOSH, L&I, and industry-specific requirements) isn't going away, and most small businesses don't have a dedicated compliance person. I've spent over a decade writing safety documentation and audit-ready procedures in aerospace manufacturing and hydrogen storage research — high-stakes, closely regulated work. I bring that same rigor to build documentation that holds up to scrutiny without slowing your team down.
Good for: trades and field-service businesses facing inspections, audits, or insurance requirements.
-
"The software has a steep learning curve."
New hires shouldn't have to learn your systems by trial and error, and your best people shouldn't have to stop working to re-explain the same thing for the fifth time. I build clear, step-by-step training materials — for software, equipment, or procedures — based on how adults actually learn technical material, drawn from years of training engineers and technicians in complex environments.
Good for: businesses onboarding frequently, or with high turnover in technical/field roles.
-
"Everyone says we should be using AI. Nobody can tell us where it would actually help."
Most AI advice aimed at small businesses is either a sales pitch for one tool or a vague promise about the future. I do something narrower and more useful: I look at how your business actually runs and tell you specifically where AI would save real hours — and where it wouldn't. If you want to act on it, I'll build the systems with you — set up alongside the people who'll use them.
Good for: owners who keep hearing they should "use AI" and want a straight answer about where it's worth the trouble.
-
"Email templates would be useful."
Sometimes what's needed isn't a big project — it's the right template, spreadsheet, or small custom tool that saves a few minutes, many times a day. From email and document templates to lightweight custom tools and automated tracking sheets, I build practical, low-maintenance solutions sized to your business, not enterprise software you'll never fully use.
Good for: quick wins, low budget, high daily-use impact.

How I Work
Most projects follow the same four steps — no surprises, no jargon, no disappearing for three weeks with your files.
-
We start with a conversation and a look at how things actually get done today — where the time goes, what only lives in one person's head, and what's slowing your team down. No prep work required on your end.
-
I do the digging. I interview the people who actually do the work and capture the real process — not the tidy version nobody follows — so nothing important is lost or assumed.
-
I turn what I've learned into something you can actually use: clear SOPs, training materials, templates, or checklists — written in plain language, sized to your business, and built to survive a busy Tuesday.
-
I walk you and your team through it, make sure it fits the way you really work, and adjust anything that doesn't. You end up owning a system your team can run without me in the room.
-
That's exactly why you'd bring me in. The documenting is my job, not yours. I do the interviews, record them, and write everything up — your team keeps doing their work while I capture how they do it. The whole point is to take this off your plate, not add to it.
-
It's actually the opposite. Big companies already have process departments, compliance officers, and training teams. Small businesses carry all of that on a few people's memory — which works right up until someone's out sick, quits, or retires. This service exists specifically for businesses that don't have a corporate process department but need the same reliability.
-
I help you use it. I write things in plain language, walk your team through them, and adjust based on how you really work. The goal is a system your people actually reach for — not a binder that sits on a shelf.
-
That's usually where I start, and it's completely normal. You don't need to have anything organized before we talk. Figuring out what's tangled, what's missing, and what's worth fixing first is part of the job.
